Xavi Highlights Ousmane Dembele’s Importance
Barcelona coach Xavi has highlighted Dembele’s importance to his team after welcoming the forward back from injury in April. The manager told a press conference there are few players like Dembele in the world, as reported by Goal.
“We have missed him. He is the best one-on-one player, there are few in the world like him. Ask the full-backs in La Liga who they prefer,” he told reporters. “He’s a player with tremendous speed, he’s a difference-maker. It’s logical that we’ve missed him.”
Barcelona are set to offer Dembele a new contract that runs until 2027, according to Diario Sport. Such a deal would secure the Frenchman’s long-term future and ensure he spends his peak years at the Camp Nou.
Dembele Opens Up On Favorite Camp Nou Moment
Dembele is set to return to action on Sunday, May 28 against Real Mallorca in Barcelona’s final home game of the season. It’s also the last time the Catalans will play at Camp Nou until 2024, with the famous old stadium set to undergo renovation work.
The Frenchman has been asked about his favorite moment at the Camp Nou, ahead of the game, and revealed it was when he scored his first goal for the club against Chelsea.
“For me, my best moment at Camp Nou is my first goal against Chelsea. I was coming back from injury, around three or four months, and I scored this goal which was incredible for me,” he told Barca TV. “My first at Camp Nou. It made me very happy. Messi passed me the ball and it was incredible. I am very proud of this goal.”
Barcelona will be hoping that Dembele can go on and make plenty more memories at the Camp Nou in the future, with the Frenchman’s contract extension one of the club’s top summer priorities.
