“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson is celebrating the release of her 10th studio album, “Chemistry”, which came out on Friday, June 23. While appearing on “The Today Show” one day prior to promote the release of her long-anticipated “divorce album”, Clarkson caught up with hosts Carson Daly and Hoda Kotb about the album, her relationship with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock (which served as the biggest inspiration for the 14 newly-released songs), and her upcoming move from Los Angeles to New York City.

During the interview, Kotb asked Clarkson, “Do you think about your ex listening to [the new album]?” to which Clarkson quickly and plainly replied, “No. I don’t know if he would care either way,” before going on to share that she and Blackstock did have a text exchange about the record.

Kelly Clarkson Keeps in Contact With Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock

“I don’t even remember why [it came up] or how it happened,” Clarkson said of her decision to text Blackstock about her newest album, “But I was like ‘Hey, I didn’t just diminish us down to one [thing],’ It’s all in there, the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now there’s a lot of pain, but that’s what happens for all of us.”

Clarkson didn’t share Blackstock’s immediate reaction, as Daly asked her if she had any plans to support “Chemistry” with touring shows, something Clarkson confirmed is not currently in the works due to her full-time role as the host of her eponymous daytime talk show, which is moving to New York City in Fall 2023, and a mother to two children, River, 9, and Remy, 7.

Instead of touring shows, Clarkson plans to perform her new music at her upcoming Las Vegas residency, “Chemistry: an intimate night with Kelly Clarkson”, which has a limited run of 10 shows during July and August 2023 and is playing at the Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood.

The Bakkt Theater has been home to residencies from many a-list singers and musicians, including Clarkson’s fellow “Voice” coach Gwen Stefani, whose “Gwen Stefani – Just a Girl” show played there for 57 shows between June 2018 and November 2021. Clarkson was previously supposed to play 16 shows at the Bakkt Theater in 2020 with her show “Kelly Clarkson: Invincible”, however the show was delayed and later cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Kelly Clarkson Reacts to the Label ‘Divorce Album’

In a June 2023 interview with NPR, Clarkson shared her thoughts on whether or not the label “divorce album” is a fair moniker for “Chemistry” or whether that was an unfair generalization of her new record, and while Clarkson maintained that her album explores both negative and positive emotions from her last relationship, “I get why people would say that, because obviously I’m divorced now and I haven’t had music since then. So it’s like, ‘Oh, what is she going to say?’  We’re all guilty of that with any artists we love. And unfortunately, from tragedy and hurtful places, a lot of music that is highly relatable comes out of that. I’m not offended by it by any means.”

Clarkson’s “Chemistry” follows a string of recent divorce albums from big names in the country music world. In February 2023 Kelsea Ballerini released a surprise EP, “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat”, and prior to that artists including Kacey Musgraves and The Chicks released full-length albums (2021’s “Star-Crossed” and 2020’s “Gaslighter”, respectively) chronicaling their own fraught marriages.

Voice Star’s Ex Posts New Photos After Son is Hospitalized https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/morgan-wallen-son-dog-bite-hospital/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/morgan-wallen-son-dog-bite-hospital/#respond Sat, 24 Jun 2023 15:01:11 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4478646

KT Smith, the ex-girlfriend of country star Morgan Wallen, posted new photos to Instagram after their son was hospitalized on June 18.

Indigo Wilder, 2, was taken to the emergency room for stitches on June 19 after Smith’s rescue dog, a Great Pyrenees named Legend, bit Indigo on the face.

Smith, 28, posted new photos via Instagram on June 22. Most of the pictures were of her son, whom she welcomed with Wallen in July 2020. Indigo didn’t appear to have stitches on his face in the pictures.  In some of the pictures the toddler wore a camouflage T-shirt and another image showed him with a “cool mama” T-shirt.

“biiiiig walmart toddler boy section mama over here,” Smith captioned the post. “He’s been in their clothing since he was born, and he’s still rockin’ it bc their clothes just keep getting better and better.”

The social media influence indicated the post was a partnership with Wal-Mart. She included a link to a page where her followers could purchase the same outfits she bought for her toddler. “Indigo’s outfit + some other recent items that I just couldn’t pass up from Walmart for him,” Smith wrote on her LTK page.

Smith and Wallen dated from 2017 to 2019, per Us Weekly.

Wallen competed on “The Voice” during season 6 in 2014. Shakira and Usher turned their chairs for him, but he competed on Team Usher. Wallen performed on the series until he was voted off by fans during the Live Playoffs after making it to the top 20. He’s gone on to become one of the most successful contestants from “The Voice,” according to Parade.

Known for songs like “Wasted on You,” “Last Night,” and “You Proof,” Wallen has more than 26.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Smith Revealed What Happened to The Dog That Bit Her Son

According to Smith, Legened was rehomed after he bit Indigo.

“Just wanted to update you guys but also thank you for all of the help and support. We just dropped Legend off with the sweetest family where he will be living out his full potential and best life on a farm,” she wrote via Instagram on June 19, per People. “I couldn’t have asked for a better family for him to be loved by and they’re east Tenneseaans so we can visit any time we need to. Thank you guys again, for helping but for also crying with me and lifting me up.”

“Today’s been a day,” Smith added via Instagram Stories on June 20.  “Trying to say distracted and just out of the house today … But today is a lot harder than I thought it would be.”

“I’ve tried a lot of things to get myself out of this funk and sadness,” the social media influence added. “Usually, if I buy people gifts and stuff, um, it helps. I went and got Indigo some new toys.”

Wallen Said He Didn’t Expect to Be a Single Father

Wallen, 30, said he never “imagined” he would become a single father.

It “is not how I imagined parenthood. I wanted to have a family like my parents. My parents are still together, you know,” Wallen told People in 2021. “They raised [me and my sisters] together. That was my idea of what my life would look like. That’s not the way it turned out. And I struggled with that a little bit when I first found out.”

Wallen said he and Smith conceived  Indigo — whom they call Indie — after they broke up but were still seeing each other.

The country star said Smith is someone he still cares about.

“We’re doing our best to figure it out, just trying to do the best we can with the situation,” Wallen told People. “I mean, many people have been in this situation before — having a kid with someone you’re not with — but knowing that doesn’t make it any easier.”

Kelly Clarkson Makes ‘Unhealthy’ Reveal Since Divorce https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-divorce-exhusband-brandon-blackstock/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-divorce-exhusband-brandon-blackstock/#comments Sat, 24 Jun 2023 14:54:16 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4478628

“Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson admits she relied on unhealthy habits to cope during her divorce from her husband, Brandon Blackstock.

“I don’t know how people get through anything like that because I’m not going to say I did it gracefully. Behind closed doors by myself, it was not,” Clarkson, 41, told Zane Lowe for Apple Music during an interview on June 21.

“Just to be brutally honest, I did not handle it well,” she continued. “I had many sessions with just my friends [where] I couldn’t even speak. I was crying so hard, even before separating. There were just a lot of now unhealthy habits you recognize or habits that you recognize that you didn’t see before. Hindsight is a lot easier.”

Clarkson is promoting her new album, “Chemistry,” which dropped on June 23.

Clarkson and Blackstock were married from October 20, 2013, to June 2020, per People. Their divorce was finalized in March 2022, the outlet added. They have two children together, River Rose, 9, and Remington Alexander, 7.

Clarkson joined “The Voice” during season 14 in 2018. She stayed on the series until season 21, and then returned for season 23, according to NBC. Clarkson has won the reality TV singing competition four times, per the publication.

In 2002, Clarkson sky-rocketed to fame when she became the season 1 winner of “American Idol” — beating out runner-up Justin Guarini. Her first hit became “A Moment Like This.”

Clarkson Said She ‘Desperately Tried’

The “Happier Than Ever” singer said she tried to save her marriage and went to therapy to find a solution to her marital woes.

“This album starts off with a song called ‘Skip This Part,’ And I literally say, ‘Can I skip this part?’ I literally said to my therapist [before the breakup], ‘We’re trying to figure it out. I desperately want to make this happen,’ but I think I knew in my heart it just wasn’t going to,” she told Lowe.

Clarkson said her children are still hopeful their parents will reunite.

“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re snuggling, ‘Are you happy? And if you’re not, what could make you happier?'” Clarkson said on the March 13 episode of “The Angie Martinez IRL Podcast.” “Sometimes they’ll say, especially the past two years, and it kills me and I want them to be honest, so I don’t ever say, ‘Oh god, don’t tell me that,’ but a lot of times it would be like, ‘You know, I’m just really sad. I wish mommy and daddy were in the same house.'”

Clarkson didn’t give a specific reason why she and her ex-husband split, but an anonymous insider who spoke to People said quarantining together in 2020 at the start of the pandemic “exacerbated” their issues.

Clarkson Reveals What She Texted Blackstock About Her Divorce Album

Clarkson said he gave her ex-husband a heads-up about her 2023 album before it was released.

“I don’t even remember why or how it happened, but I was like, ‘Hey, I didn’t just diminish us down to one [thing],'” she told Hoda Kotb and Carson Daly on the “Today” show in June 2023. “You know what I’m saying? It’s all in there, the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now there’s a lot of pain, but that’s what happens for all of us.”

The singer said she was mindful of her children when writing the album.

“It’s very personal. And I’ve always released personal music — I think I’m that kind of writer in general, everybody knows that,” she said during the “Today” interview. “I think when you have kids — you both have kids, too — you kind of debate, ‘What am I going to do here?’ So I was very selective about the songs I picked for the album.”

Gwen Stefani Gets a Shoutout From Blake Shelton https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefani-blake-shelton-true-babe/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefani-blake-shelton-true-babe/#respond Fri, 23 Jun 2023 15:17:43 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4477926

Gwen Stefani is back in the game with her new single “True Babe.” Stefani, who will be returning to “The Voice” this fall as a coach, released the song on June 23.

This marks Stefani’s first new music since 2021. That was when she teamed up with Saweetie on “Slow Clap.” The last album that she has put out was back in 2017 when she dropped a holiday collection with “You Make It Feel Like Christmas.” There’s no official announcement if “True Babe” will lead into a new album, but Stefani did tell Fault Magazine in a June interview that she’s been writing new songs since 2020.

In that same interview, Stefani also mentioned how “True Babe” is about her husband and recently retired “The Voice” coach, Blake Shelton. Stefani told the outlet he “likes the song” and that the song was half-written for her before she went in and put her own touch on it “to really make it feel more custom.”

Blake Shelton Shouts Out Gwen Stefani’s New Track

Speaking of Shelton, the country star didn’t waste any time giving his wife’s new single a shout out on social media. He posted the cover photo of “True Babe” onto his Instagram and urged his followers to check it out.

“My wife put a new song today,” he wrote. “You know… the GWEN STEFANI! Go listen people! It’s a hit! I’m so proud of you @Gwenstefani.”

She reshared the post onto her own Instagram Story and added “Love you” to the post.

Gwen Stefani Gave Blake Shelton a Heartfelt ‘Voice’ Send-off

When the season 23 finale came, so too did the final episode for Shelton. There were many past singers and coaches who returned to give their thanks to all that he has done for the NBC series, including his wife whom he met through the show.

In the video montage that played, Stefani appeared and talked about how they fell in love through this show, “When I first came on the show, our life was having this parallel destruction happening – and the next thing I know, Blake and I start becoming besties and falling in love.”

The two got engaged in October 2020 before walking down the aisle on July 3, 2021.

Gwen Stefani Will Be Back on ‘The Voice’

While her husband may have seen his long run on the show come to an end with season 23, Stefani will keep the red chair streak going in their household. She will be back for season 24 in the fall where she will also make her return alongside John Legend. The two were together for three seasons on “The Voice” with seasons 17, 19, and 22. They will join one returning coach and the reigning winner in Niall Horan as well as first-time coach Reba McEntire.

The good news keeps coming for Stefani who also is included in the recently announced season 25 coaching list, which has drawn mixed reviews from the fans. “The Voice” released the Spring 2024 lineup on Juen 22 which features Stefani as well as Legend. They will be with Chance the Rapper for his second season and McEntire.

Historic Change to ‘The Voice’ Coaching Panel Draws Mixed Fan Reactions https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/fans-react-to-2024-voice-coaches/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/fans-react-to-2024-voice-coaches/#respond Fri, 23 Jun 2023 14:07:40 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4477642

Big changes are coming to “The Voice” and fans have some big feelings about the news. On June 22, 2023, NBC revealed on social media that during season 25 — which will premiere in the spring of 2024 — the talent competition will feature five instead of four celebrity coaches for the first time in the show’s history.

“The Voice” had already announced its season 24 judging panel for the fall of 2023, which features Niall Horan, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire, who’s taking over for longtime coach Blake Shelton. That group will compete with one another on the show this fall.

But come spring, only two of those coaches will return — McEntire and Legend. According to a press release from NBC, they’ll be joined by Chance The Rapper, who just wrapped his first season of the show and is taking a break this fall, as he returns for season 25 — and not one but two brand new coaches. “The Voice” will feature a new “Double Chair” next year to be shared by Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers, best known as the country duo Dan+Shay.

Across social media, fans had strong opinions about the 2024 lineup, from people who were overjoyed to people who were so upset they vowed to boycott the show. Here’s what you need to know:

Addition of Dan+Shay to ‘The Voice’ Draws Mixed Reactions

Fan reaction to the coaching changes was swift and loud on social media, whether people were excited or devastated. Many people were thrilled to hear about the addition of Dan+Shay, who served as advisors to Shelton on “The Voice” during season 20.

One fan reacting to the show’s announcement on Instagram commented, “Ahhhh!!!!! OMG this is the best news ever received ever.”

Another wrote, “@danandshay LET’S GOOOOO! Y’ALL I AM CRYING! I LOVE Y’ALL SO MUCH! WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOUUUUU! 😭😭😭”

But not everyone was so happy about the duo’s addition, with some complaining that having two country music teams on the panel is too much.

For instance, one fan on Instagram wrote, “Two country coaches? No thanks. I’m out.”

Another replied to the post on Twitter by writing, “NO More Country Voice! And 4 males 1 female coaches?”

On “The Voice” Facebook page, a frustrated viewer wrote, “Just change the name to Country Voice already. Put it on CMT where it belongs. Over it. AND…I like country. But this is overkill. I’m thought maybe the show had a shot of being more fair now that Blake is FINALLY gone. But no. They are catering to the country fans.”

Another upset fan who wasn’t familiar with the chart-topping “Speechless” singers commented via Instagram, “literally WHO? You used to have global superstars omg The Voice Flop Era.”

Meanwhile, countless fans of pop star Niall Horan were confused and annoyed by the announcement, with many thinking he’d been removed from season 24 this fall while others didn’t realize that because he recently announced a 2024 world tour, it would be too difficult to return for “The Voice” next spring.

On Twitter, one of his frustrated fans wrote, “WHAT THE I THOUGHT NIALL WAS GONNA BE THERE WHERE IS NIALL” while another tweeted, “Damnit, where’s @NiallOfficial ??!”

Social media users on every platform repeatedly attempted to calm down Horan’s fans, trying to explain why the former One Direction member wasn’t included in the season 25 coaching panel — and that he’s still on the show this fall.

McEntire and Legend’s continuation on the show didn’t create a great deal of buzz on social media, but the impending return of Chance The Rapper seemed to be the one move that a majority of fans were genuinely excited about. On each platform, many viewers shared that they’d come to love him as a coach during season 23 for his authenticity and perspective and are excited to see him come back.

One happy fan on Instagram wrote, “@chancetherapper you’re a freaking genius. I never knew you before this last season. Not only is your music production the bomb, you are so grounded, clear, honest, and hilarious.”

Another wrote, “So happy Chance is coming back, love this guy”

‘The Voice’ Coaches Say They’re Pumped for Season 25

The five judges who will come together for season 25 in 2024 also took to social media to share their excitement. On Instagram, each of them reposted NBC’s video of their names being revealed on the back of one of the judge chairs.

On McEntire’s post, she wrote, “Because one season just wasn’t enough…so excited to be a part of #TheVoice 2024 coaches with @danandshay, @johnlegend, and @chancetherapper!”

On Chance The Rapper’s post, he wrote, “TEAM CHANCE is back on #TheVoice in 2024!”

Sorelle, the trio of sisters who made it to the season 23 finale on his team, replied, “Always Team Chance🔥”

Dan+Shay used all caps to share their excitement, writing, “SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE WILL BE JOINING @nbcthevoice IN 2024 AS THE FIRST COACHING DUO! 🤠🤠”

Meanwhile, Legend kept it simple, writing, “#TheVoice Season 25 coming 2024! #VoteTeamLegend2024”

NBC has not yet provided specific premiere dates for either season 24 or season 25 of “The Voice,” but has said the series will continue to air on Mondays at 8 p.m. Eastern time and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

While 2024 may seem a bit away, that doesn’t mean “The Voice” isn’t preparing for what’s ahead as the NBC singing competition revealed its set of coaches for season 25

Season 24 will air in the fall with two coaches who will remain for the following season in John Legend and Reba McEntire. Joining them for season 25 will be Chance The Rapper and for the first time ever, a duo in Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay fame.

Season 25 will air in spring 2024.

‘The Voice’ Season 25 Features its First Coaching Pair

The red chairs will look a little different for season 25 as the show will introduce its first pair as a coach. Smyers and Mooney first appeared on “The Voice” in season 20 as battle advisors for Blake Shelton.

On “The Voice” Instagram page, the account posted a clip with a Double Chair graphic ahead of the announcement. The duo expressed their excitement with their own Instagram post that in all caps.

“So excited to announce that we will be joining @NBCTheVoice in 2024 as the first coaching duo,” the group wrote.

Dan + Shay were the Duo of the Year at the 2021 Academy of Country Music Awards. That same year they also won for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with “10,000 Hours.”

Chance The Rapper Returns to ‘The Voice’

Fresh off his first appearance as a coach, Chance The Rapper isn’t taking too long of a hiatus from the show. He will sit out season 24 but will be right back in his red chair come season 25.

Chance joined Niall Horan as the two first-year coaches for season 23. Horan, who just led Gina Miles to victory, will be back in the fall but will not return for season 25.

Chance, who sent the trio of Sorelle to the season 23 finale, wrote on Instagram that “Team Chance is back.”

A Pair of Season 24 Coaches Will Be Back for the Spring

The pair of Legend and McEntire will run it back when the spring rolls around. Legend first appeared as a coach on season 16 where he stayed through season 22. He took a quick break where he will return in the fall.

For McEntire, she has never been a coach. She was a Mega Mentor on this past iteration and had previously appeared as an advisor before. She is now signed up for two straight seasons beginning with the fall.

When the fall season comes around, it will be the first time without Blake Shelton. He announced his retirement from the red chair after serving in the role since the inaugural season. Kelly Clarkson also won’t be back for the fall nor will she return for season 24.

NBC hasn’t officially revealed what date season 24 will premiere.

“The Voice” premiered in 2011 with Shelton as a coach joined by Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, and Adam Levine. The most recent season saw Gina Miles bring home the win for Team Niall over Team Blake’s Grace West. Team Kelly was represented in the finale by D. Smooth while Chance went in with Sorelle. Shelton was the only coach with two members in the finale as NOIVAS was his second singer.

Kelly Clarkson Reveals Her ‘Pet Peeve’ in Other Singers’ Music https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-pet-peeve-music-dating/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-pet-peeve-music-dating/#respond Thu, 22 Jun 2023 15:55:39 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4477081

“The Voice” coach and “American Idol” champion Kelly Clarkson is preparing for the release of her much-anticipated 10th studio album, “Chemistry” (which comes out Friday, June 23). In working up to the album’s release, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” host sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on June 21 to talk about the songs on the album, the themes Clarkson explores in her songwriting, and the personal emotions at play that inspired her during this project.

The main source of inspiration for this record, as Clarkson has spoken about multiple times, was her divorce from ex-husband (and ex-manager) Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares two children, River and Remington. Clarkson has previously explained that she named the album “Chemistry” because while a lot of her sadness and anger over her divorce is prevalent, she wanted to capture the good parts of the relationship as well. “A whole relationship shouldn’t be brought down to just one thing. So there’s the good, the bad, and the ugly kinda thing going on it.”

During her Apple Music interview, Clarkson expanded on this and went into what inspires her and what bothers her about other musicians and their work.

Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Pet Peeve of Art’

Clarkson explained to Lowe that some of her angriest songs (where she is “saying names”) were left off of “Chemistry” because the emotions behind them were too raw, but that they are still valuable to her.

“That’s the cool thing about art,” Clarkson said, “Whether you’re a painter, a sculptor, writer, singer, whatever you’re doing. You can tell when someone’s been through something. That’s the worst thing too, it’s my pet peeve of art whenever it’s so transparent that you have no idea what you’re singing about or talking about. It’s so transparent with the artist.

“You’re undeserving to sing that lyric right now,” Clarkson elaborated, sharing how she feels when she hears music but can’t feel the artist’s emotional connection to the subject matter, “Because unless you’ve felt it, don’t try and talk about it. Don’t try and tell me what I’m feeling. That’s very hard for me to hear.”

Later, in the interview, Clarkson shared why it is important for her that her music have the emotional connection that she wants from other artists, and why she promotes music she enjoys from lesser-known artists than herself. “I need somebody to be able to heal like I did and hear [that] this is important. And there are songs and records that do not get the recognition that you feel like [they should].”

Kelly Clarkson Shared Her Dating Pet Peeves

Years before her Apple Music interview, Clarkson hosted a “Single Ladies Celebration” on her show in February 2021 and opened up about her pet peeves in relationships.

When one fan asked if Clarkson had any relationship annoyances that she pretended to like in the moment but actually didn’t Clarkson was ready with her answer. “I dated this guy, and I think because I’m a singer-songwriter [he felt like] ‘Oh, I’m going to write her a song,'” Clarkson explained, before looking directly into the camera and telling the viewing audience, “Don’t.”

‘The Voice’ Fans React to New ‘Double Chair’ & Coaching Changes https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/nbc-announces-voice-double-chair/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/nbc-announces-voice-double-chair/#respond Wed, 21 Jun 2023 21:23:21 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4476600

Fans of “The Voice” are already bracing for the biggest change in the show’s 24-season history when the NBC singing competition returns this fall without original coach Blake Shelton, who’s being replaced by country legend Reba McEntire following his retirement from the series.

Now, fans are abuzz over news there are more changes ahead. NBC revealed on June 21, 2023, that more surprises are in the works, including the introduction of a mysterious “Double Chair” and the promise of an “epic lineup” of coaches for next year, insinuating that the coaches will not remain the same. Here’s what you need to know:

Fans Have Lots of Thoughts About Who May Fill New ‘Double Chair’

Across its social media accounts on June 21, “The Voice” uploaded an illustration of a two-seated, red coaches’ chair with one button in the center. In bold letters across the graphic, the words “The Double Chair” appeared.

The caption of the post reads, “double chair + new 2024 Coach lineup coming…. stay tuned”

With the coaching lineup already set for fall’s season 24, comprised of McEntire, Niall Horan, John Legend and Gwen Stefani, NBC’s social media stunt likely means that it’s already locked in coaches for a 25th season. Fans think the Double Chair indicates a powerful duo has been cast — and they’ve got lots of thoughts on who it might be.

On Instagram, fans were quick to guess who will be seated in the Double Chair, with many suggesting Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers, who make up the country duo Dan+Shay and served as advisors to Shelton on “The Voice” in 2021. Shelton told “Access” in February 2021 that they were an ideal fit to advise his group of contestants.

“The way they come together and vocalize together and make music, I thought that would be a great mentor to have, these two,” he said. “Because so many times I’m sitting here in a situation with these battle rehearsals and one of the artists will ask me a question about harmony, and I don’t know crap about harmony. I’ll be like, ‘Oh, you know, I’m gonna check on that for you,’ and then I never do, because I don’t know anything about harmony.”

Many others suggested that Horan might bring one of his former One Direction bandmates, like Harry Styles or Louis Tomlinson, to share the Double Chair with him. However, some fans pointed out that Horan recently announced an extensive world tour for 2024, which may preclude him from being part of “The Voice” then.

Some expressed hope that the announcement means Shelton might return, including one who wrote, “Till we know who is it, in my mind I’ll be picturing Gwen and Blake 🤩😂”

Another fan suggested, “@selenagomez and @taylorswift that would be iconic @nbcthevoice ❤️”

Other guesses included R&B duo Chloe x Halle, country artists Brooks & Dunn, past “Voice” coach Nick Jonas with one of his brothers, or a country music couple like Tim McGraw and Faith Hill or Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. There were plenty of amusing guesses, too.

Season 22 contestant Jaeden Luke joked, “If it’s not @bodie and @oprah I’m not watching” and Bodie Kuljian, who was the runner-up that season, replied, “honestly.”

Another person quipped, “If it’s not Snoop and Martha, I’m out.”

“The Voice” Coaching Lineup Has Undergone Lots of Changes Lately

When “The Voice” returns with season 24 in the fall of 2023, Shelton will be noticeably absent from the coaching lineup for the first time in the show’s history. However, it’s possible he’ll make a cameo given that his wife, Gwen Stefani, is returning as a judge.

Kelly Clarkson, who has coached on nine different seasons of “The Voice,” also won’t be returning and it’s not clear if she ever will. The pop star is moving her talk show and her family out of Los Angeles this summer and settling in New York City to be closer to East Coast family.

In May, she told Talk Shop Live host Nancy O’Dell that she was ready for a “fresh start” after several tough years during which she navigated a nasty divorce from her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.

When O’Dell mentioned that Clarkson will not be part of the show’s cast “next year,” Clarkson replied, “I know. I’m not gonna be — I’m moving to New York.”

McEntire, meanwhile, recently told “Access” that she can’t wait to take over Shelton’s chair.

“I got all my advice that I’m ever gonna take from Blake Shelton. So, I am so ready,” she said.

‘Voice’ Star’s Child Rushed to ER After Ex’s Dog Attacks Face https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/morgan-wallen-son-dog-bite/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/morgan-wallen-son-dog-bite/#respond Wed, 21 Jun 2023 19:47:49 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4476167

Country star Morgan Wallen’s son, 2-year-old Indigo Wilder, was taken to the hospital for stitches on June 18 after he was bitten by a dog. Wallen’s ex-girlfriend, KT Smith — the mother of Indigo — revealed via Instagram the following day that her dog bit the toddler on the face.

“Yesterday, he bit Indigo in the face, and [Indigo] had to have stitches, and we spent yesterday morning at the emergency room,” she said, per Page Six.

“Since then, we have been looking for options, and I just couldn’t bring myself to what everyone else says and what you’re supposed to do, apparently — what the world tells you to do — is to put the dog down because they are aggressive,” she explained, according to the outlet. Her dog is a Great Pyrenees named Legend, whom she rescued in 2022, per Instagram.

Smith, 28, said she didn’t want Legend to go to a kill shelter, and vowed to find a new home where there aren’t small children. “He is not aggressive toward adults at all,” she said, per the publication. “You can get in his face, and you can do anything, and he’s still such a good dog.”

“I’m getting Indigo back home tomorrow, and he has to be gone by then,” she said about Legend, according to Indigo.

Smith knew she couldn’t keep Legend in her home. He’d have to be muzzled to avoid future bites. She said it was best for Legened to be rehomed.

“I can’t be a good dog mom to him [if I’m] keeping a muzzle on him or a good mom in general. Having a kid just really scared of him in the home,” she explained via Instagram Stories, per Page Six.

Wallen, who dated Smith from 2017 to 2019 — per Us Weekly — did not publicly comment on the incident. Wallen first appeared on “The Voice” during season 6 in 2014 where he was Team Usher. He performed “Collide” by Howie Day for his audition, and made it to the top 20 before he was voted off by fans.

Wallen has gone on to become one of the most popular country singers, known for top hits like “Wasted on You,” “Last Night,” and “You Proof.” He has nearly n 26.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Smith Revealed Legend’s Fate

Smith said she found a new home for Legend, where he would be taken care of.

“Just wanted to update you guys but also thank you for all of the help and support. We just dropped Legend off with the sweetest family where he will be living out his full potential and best life on a farm,” she wrote via Instagram, per People.

“I’ve tried a lot of things to get myself out of this funk and sadness,” she continued. “Usually, if I buy people gifts and stuff, um, it helps. I went and got Indigo some new toys, and while I was at Walmart, I went to get Tom some new dog treats and toys.”

Smith was referring to her other dog, Tom Ford.

Smith Said Legend Was ‘Trustworthy’

In one of Smith’s last Instagram posts with Legned, she kissed him on the mouth after grooming him.

“The most trustworthy boy,” she wrote in March. “Most doggos let alone a rescue wouldn’t let you give ‘em a hair cut 🌞 don’t worry this isn’t his final 😂 he got a dinner intermission.”

When Smith first took Legend home in April 2022, she wrote that the dog might have been taken to the veterinarian for the first time when she rescued him.

“We think we had his first ever real vet appointment today and let’s just say the Lord has His hand over this dog,” the mother-of-one penned. “After finding about 50 ticks on this boy, he was cleared from having any tick prone diseases. He now has been treated, vaxxed, tested, and is on heart worm/flea/tick prevention. He may be 50 lbs underweight, but that’ll be an easy fix.”

Kelly Clarkson on Seeking a Therapist During ‘Difficulties’ in Marriage https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-therapist-marriage-divorce-album/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-therapist-marriage-divorce-album/#respond Wed, 21 Jun 2023 15:56:11 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4476210

“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson has been answering questions about her divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock since the proceedings began in Summer 2020.

Now, as she prepares to release her 10th studio album, “Chemistry” (which comes out on June 23), Clarkson is revisiting this period in her life and explaining more of the emotions she felt surrounding the end of her marriage.

In a June 19 interview with ET Canada, Clarkson confirmed that she started going to therapy during a difficult period in her marriage and has kept up the practice through her divorce to today. When asked how much money she was able to save by skipping therapy to channel her emotions into her new batch of 14 songs, Clarkson clarified that she hasn’t skipped a session. “Girl, I didn’t save [any money],” the “American Idol” winner said.

Kelly Clarkson Explains What She’s Learned From Therapy

“I’ve been regularly doing [therapy]. I do love it. I actually started when I was married, you know, obviously having difficulties and… not just about the relationships, just in general, I’d never really done regular therapy or anything like that,” Clarkson explained in the interview, explaining that the decision to go to therapy “was a really good turning point for me.”

“They give you so many tools for how to navigate certain situations and also to have somebody outside your circle that doesn’t know anything but just knows what’s happening in the now. And that was really helpful,” Clarkson continued on after explaining that prior to going to therapy she would use her close circles of friends as a sounding board for anything that was troubling her.

Although it came out of a dark period in her life, Clarkson is eager to release “Chemistry”. She told ET Canada, “I always say like people’s best work of art, whether you’re a sculptor, painter, writer, whatever you are, it’s usually after a hard time because that’s when they’re feeling everything so intensely, the artist, right?”

Despite this excitement, releasing such a personal project does not come without its nerves, as Clarkson has previously opened up about in an interview with Ryan Seacrest, saying, “I’ve always written with a vulnerable heart, so I’m very open. So I’m not nervous about that. I think I’m just more nervous on a personal note because it’s one of those things where I’m going to have to keep talking about it and keep performing.”

Team Kelly Champion Chevel Shepherd Announces Engagement

Although her coach Clarkson’s marriage did not end as lovingly as it began, “The Voice” season 15 champion (and Team Kelly member) Chevel Shepherd is starting preparations for her own walk down the aisle. Shepherd confirmed her engagement in a June 18 Instagram post, writing, “You’re looking at future Mrs. Garcia!! God put us together and He sure did bless me with the most amazing, loving, kind man ever. I love you so much, and I’m so excited to marry you and spend forever with you. ❤️”

Shepherd was Clarkson’s second consecutive “Voice” winner after season 14 (Clarkson’s first season on the show) brought home a Team Kelly win with teenage singer Brynn Cartelli.

‘The Voice’ Coach Lands Major Accomplishment https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-billboard-album-debut-show/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-billboard-album-debut-show/#respond Wed, 21 Jun 2023 12:53:23 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4476097

Niall Horan has done it again with another No. 1 album. “The Voice” coach saw his latest album, “The Show,” debut atop Billboard Top Album Sales chart for the week of June 24.

This is the third straight album for Horan to accomplish this achievement. He did so previously with his first two solo projects in 2017’s “Flicker” and 2020’s “Heartbreak Weather.”

“The Show” released on June 9, 2023 and features 10 tracks, including two singles in “Meltdown” and “Heaven.”

Niall Horan’s History of No. 1 Albums

With “The Show” becoming his third project to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, Horan has now tied his former One Direction bandmate. Harry Styles also has seen his first three solo albums reach the milestone with “Harry Styles (2017)”, “Fine Line (2019)”, and “Harry House (2022)”.

Finding success on his own, Horan also is familiar with the accomplishment when he was with the British boy band. One Direction secured four No. 1 albums before splitting up in 2016.

Niall Horan on the Length of the ‘The Show’

There’s a reason that Horan’s third album is easily consumable with just 10 tracks that run a half hour. Horan, who recently received a special video message from Blake Shelton, explained in a June 9 post on Instagram the thought process behind keeping it on the shorter side.

“All 10 songs have their special meanings to me and I hope they can all have meaning in your lives,” he wrote. “I made a 10 track album so hopefully you get to the end and want to go straight back to the start and do it all over again.”

“Heartbreak Weather” featured 14 songs while his first album, “Flicker,” contained 13.

He will also head out on tour with “The Show.” He wrote in that same Instagram post that he expects it to “be amazing” and that he’s eager to get back on the road.

“I can’t wait to bring this album and others to life in front of you,” he wrote on Instagram.

The Show Live on Tour will begin international on February 21, 2024 before heading to the states on May 29 with his first stop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The tour will conclude in Phoenix, Arizona on July 31.

Niall Horan Will Be Back for ‘The Voice’ Season 24

The first-year coach had no problem assimilating into the NBC singing competition in season 23. Horan found quick success as he helped lead Gina Miles to victory.

NBC announces that Horan, who also shared which artists he frequently listens to, would be the only returning coach when season 24 rolls around in the fall. Blake Shelton officially retired from his red chair while Kelly Clarkson and Chance The Rapper both won’t be back when “The Voice” kicks back up.

In their place will be two coaches who will be back from a brief hiatus in John Legend and Gwen Stefani. Joining them for the first time will be Reba McEntire, who previously has appeared a mentor in prior seasons including as the season 23 Mega Mentor.

There has not be an official return date announced for when “The Voice” will premiere its season 24.

‘The Voice’ Finalist Thanks Fans for Love Amid Baby’s Life-Changing Diagnosis https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/finalist-omar-cardona-baby-profound-hearing-loss/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/finalist-omar-cardona-baby-profound-hearing-loss/#respond Tue, 20 Jun 2023 21:50:38 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4475738

When Omar Cardona took fourth place on season 22 of “The Voice,” fans had no idea he’d been competing on the show while his girlfriend was at home tending to their newborn baby boy.

Now six-months-old, little Luca Leandros Cardona has been diagnosed with profound hearing loss, his parents recently revealed on social media. On his first Father’s Day — June 18, 2023 — Cardona shared how fatherhood has changed him and thanked fans for respecting their wishes to stay upbeat and hopeful about Luca’s diagnosis and future. Here’s what you need to know:

Omar Cardona Didn’t Reveal He Was a Dad Until After ‘The Voice’

Cardona, who was on coach John Legend’s team, didn’t publicly announce the birth of his newborn until after he landed in fourth place during the season finale on December 13, 2022. Two days later, the Orlando native posted a photo of himself, his girlfriend Dani Montalvo and their newborn, revealing that when he dedicated a song to her live on the show on December 5, their son was actually being born.

Cardona wrote, “December 5th was a day Ill never forget. My son was born on the day I dedicated a song to his mom on national television. @xodanimontalvo THANK YOU FOR TAKING CARE OF OUR BOY WHILE I WAS FINISHING OUT THE SHOW. You encourage me to stay in LA to focus on the show. Talk about support but also being so brave! I love you so much!”

On March 5, the parents shared a joint Instagram post in which they revealed that they’d received a diagnosis they weren’t expecting. Montalvo wrote that at three months old, their infant was growing rapidly and already teething, but had also received a life-changing diagnosis of profound hearing loss.

“We found out recently that Luca has profound hearing loss, meaning he can’t hear,” she wrote. “He hasn’t passed a hearing test since he was born, and he was perfectly healthy since his birth, so he was born this way, meaning it’s genetic.”

Montalvo continued, “Although it initially hurt our hearts to know our boy hasn’t been able to hear us, we are not defeated. We are ready to move forward to give Luca everything he needs to set him up for success. He has the best family and support system. And we all get to learn a new language to communicate with him, so we are looking forward to learning alongside him. We have been learning ASL in our house and he loves to laugh at us waving our hands around.”

Writing that their main concern is for Luca to grow up “happy and healthy,” their post said that “although he can’t hear yet, we can’t wait until we can share our love of music and Omar’s voice with him as he grows.”

According to the Hearing Health Foundation, children who are diagnosed with a profound hearing loss that can’t be helped by a hearing aid may be candidates for a cochlear implant, which can be fitted when children are as young as one.

“A cochlear implant is an electronic device that converts sounds into electrical signals and carries them past the nonworking part of the inner ear to the brain,” the Foundation says. “With training, children with cochlear implants can learn to recognize sounds and understand speech.”

In their joint post on March 5, the couple asked that family, friends and fans remain upbeat and hopeful about Luca’s future.

“While we appreciate support, we ask that no one feels ‘sorry’ or sends condolences—it’s not something to be sorry about. We want Luca to grow up knowing that this does not hold him back or make him less than anyone else. It doesn’t limit him. We ask for kindness, patience, and respect while we navigate this new journey ahead with our sweet boy.”

Omar Cardona Celebrates First Father’s Day & Thanks Fans for Support

On June 18, Cardona shared a photo of him and baby Luca on Instagram, reflecting on how fatherhood has changed him.

“I can’t believe it’s father’s day and that I get to celebrate with my little guy,” he wrote. “I always thought that my only gift to the world was my voice. How wrong I was. Luca you are my gift to the world. You’ve given me purpose, a drive, and you have softened my heart. I never knew I needed you until you were here. Thank you for winning the race 😂 and making me a dad! I love you Kiddo!”

Some of Cardona’s fellow contestants from “The Voice” were among those who commented on his post.

Season 22  winner Bryce Leatherwood commented, “Proud of you brother!”

Third place finisher Morgan Myles wrote, “Awwwww love this”

His fellow semifinalist Kim Cruse added, “Happy Father’s Day O❤️✨”

On June 19, the proud papa posted a message in his Instagram Stories to thank those who had reached out on Father’s Day and were lifting their little family up with support.

“Just wanted thank everyone who text/called/or commented on my post for father’s day,” he wrote. “Yesterday I felt so much love from all of you. It’s a beautiful thing to know we have the support in the world. Thank you. All love! ❤️”

In addition to adjusting to fatherhood, Cardona has been busy professionally since his journey on “The Voice.” From late January through February, he appeared in “Rock of Ages” at the Garden Theatre in Winter Garden, Florida — a stage production directed by Broadway star Justin M. Sargent.

He also just wrapped a role in the world premiere of “Air Supply: The Musical” in New Brunswick, Canada. On June 12, he wrote on Instagram that he was heading back home but that it was “so hard to put into words what this experience was like. I am leaving here with such a huge sense of gratitude.”

She said yes.

“The Voice” season 15 champion Chevel Shepherd announced in a June 18 Instagram post that she is officially engaged to her boyfriend, Junior Garcia.

“You’re looking at future Mrs. Garcia!! God put us together and He sure did bless me with the most amazing, loving, kind man ever. I love you so much, and I’m so excited to marry you and spend forever with you. ❤️” the 20-year-old musician captioned her post, which contained a slideshow of photos from the couple’s scenic proposal. Shepherd wore a white dress while Garcia complimented his now-fiancée in a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

How Long Did Chevel Shepherd & Junior Garcia Date Before Getting Engaged?

Garcia left a loving message for his bride-to-be in her comment section, writing, “I love you beyond words can express! You give me life, and make me feel like I can accomplish anything when I’m with you! Thank you for being the most supportive and amazing girlfrie.. I mean fiancé 😳 ❤️”.

Other friends of Shepherd’s, along with many of her fans, left sweet messages offering congratulations for the happy couple.

“Chevl, I am so excited for you and your handsome beau. Sending you both lots of love and Congratulations 🎉 ❤️ 👏🏼,” director and choreographer Kenny Ortega wrote.

“The Voice” season 20 winner Cam Anthony chimed in across two separate comments, writing, “im crying 😭 🤎” and “Congratulations Chevy 🤎 🌹”.

“OMG!!!! My little queen! How exciting!” Shepherd’s Team Kelly teammate from season 15, Sarah Grace, added.

Shepherd has not hidden her relationship from social media in recent times, having posted about Garcia to celebrate his college graduation with an associate’s degree, and mark their one-year anniversary on April 15, meaning their engagement occurred about 14 months into their relationship.

“1 year with you my love, and it has flown by. I’m so happy I get to spend forever with you. My life has been better since you came into it, and I’m so happy you’re mine. I love you. Happy 1 year❤️,” Shepherd captioned her April anniversary post, with Garcia responding, “I love my life with you, the biggest blessing ❤️”.

What Has Chevel Shepherd Been up to Since ‘The Voice’?

Besides winning both “The Voice” title and now the man of her dreams, Shepherd has been involved in some incredible projects since her time on “The Voice” ended in 2018.

Shepherd tried something new, putting her acting cap on when she took on small roles in two films, 2020’s “Wildfire” and 2022’s “Vengeance”. She also explored more within her primary field, music, and was able to release two albums in the years since her “Voice” win. First came 2020’s “A Good Ol’ Country Christmas”, a 12-track compliation of holiday standards. Two years later, Shepherd followed this up with a 7-track album, titled “Everybody’s Got a Story”, her first album of original music.

Shepherd’s most recent single, “Looking for Loretta”, was released in February 2023. While working on other new releases, the singer is not hard pressed with finding any live performance opportunities, as she has been playing concerts and festivals across the country, most recently the Comstock Windmill Festival, in Comstock, Nebraska.

Gwen Stefani Shares Wedding Footage With Blake Shelton https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefani-wedding-footage-blake-shelton/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefani-wedding-footage-blake-shelton/#comments Mon, 19 Jun 2023 16:19:51 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4474158

June 18 was a day of celebration for newly retired “Voice” coach Blake Shelton. Not only was the cowboy celebrating Father’s Day (Shelton is the stepfather to his wife and fellow coach Gwen Stefani’s three sons, 17-year-old Kingston, 14-year-old Zuma, and 9-year-old Apollo), but this year Father’s Day happened to land on Shelton’s 47 birthday.

Stefani shared a social media post of her own to celebrate her husband’s big day. The post contained a video montage of sweet moments between Stefani and Shelton, including performing together on stage, hanging out at home, and sharing their first kiss as husband and wife on their wedding day.

“happy bday and fathers day, @blakeshelton <3 i love u more than anything gx,” Stefani captioned the post.

Gwen Stefani Set Her Video Montage to Her Unreleased Single ‘True Babe’

Fans were emotional on seeing Stefani’s video tribute to Shelton, and weren’t shy to make their emotions known in the comment section.

“I’m crying. Thank God he’s yours for the rest of your life!” one fan commented.

“I love seeing them both happy. Gwen just glows whenever she speaks of him,” another fan added.

“One of my fave couples!!!!!!! Best modern love story there is! May it lasts forever” a third fan wrote. Shelton and Stefani’s love story began on “The Voice” set in 2014. The two got closer while each of the singers was going through their own divorce, Stefani’s with Gavin Rossdale and Shelton’s with Miranda Lambert. The two bonded over the commonalities in their situations, and slowly but surely fell in love, getting engaged in 2020 after dating for five years first. The couple proceeded to tie the knot in the Summer of 2021 at a chapel built on their Oklahoma property.

While “The Voice” is such an important part of their love story, Shelton’s departure at the end of season 23 means that Stefani’s time as a coach on the upcoming season 24 (which will premiere in the Fall of 2023) marks her first season coaching without Shelton on the end of the panel.

Some vigilant fans noticed that the song playing in the background of Stefani’s montage is “True Babe” the single she announced earlier in the week, which will be released on June 23. “You bet I’m replaying this clip just for the song snippet,” one user wrote.

Stefani shared a similar song snippet on Twitter on June 19 while abroad, writing in the video’s caption, “so I heard true babe is trending here 🤗🥰 so excited 4 u to hear the full song this friday !!! gx”. Stefani’s Twitter clip shows the singer doing a photoshoot while in London.

Blake Shelton Rang in 47 at a Music Festival

Ahead of his birthday, Shelton played a headlining set at the Barefoot Country Music Festival in Wildwood, New Jersey, performing to a crowd of people on the Jersey Shore. Despite reports of rolling thunderstorms earlier in the day which delayed the festival’s start time by a couple of hours, the inclement weather appeared to pass by Shelton’s time on stage.

“Y’all didn’t think I’d live this long, did ya,” Shelton joked during his set in reference to his then-approaching birthday. NJ.com reported that Shelton made multiple references to his birthday throughout the set.

Blake Shelton Tries to Keep Up With New Dance Trend https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/blake-shelton-lauren-alaina-dance-video/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/blake-shelton-lauren-alaina-dance-video/#respond Sun, 18 Jun 2023 17:11:33 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4473621

Blake Shelton left “The Voice” this year after 23 seasons of serving as a coach on the show over the last 12 years, and while the country star hasn’t given up on singing and songwriting, could dance be another field of interest for the newly retired cowboy?

In a June 17 Instagram post, Shelton can be shaking it with “American Idol” season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina to her new song, “Thicc As Thieves (feat. Lainey Wilson)”, from her June 2023 EP, “Unlocked”.

“Can’t believe I got talked into this @laurenalaina… Congrats on the new song buddy!!!! Y’all go listen!!!!” Shelton captioned his video, which shows him doing his best to follow along with Alaina’s choreographed dance moves, which include several kicks, turns, and hip thrusts.

See the dance video below.

Luke Bryan Chimes in About Blake Shelton’s Dance Ability

Many users took to Shelton’s comment section to react to his attempt at the “Thicc As Thieves” dance.

“Blake, your face was hysterical. A good laugh. You’re a good sport,” one user wrote.

“You crack me up, no hip flexion whatsoever and you own it!” another fan added.

“What makes Blake to great is the fact that is is REAL!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ 🙏” a third fan commented.

Fellow country star and “American Idol” judge Luke Bryan also chimed in, telling Shelton in a comment, “I didn’t think anything could be worse than your singing until now,” which drew in over 100 responses from laughing fans, many of whom simply writing, “😂 😂 😂 😂”.

Shelton is not the first country star Alaina has coerced into joining her new dance trend. Alaina first joined forces with her song’s featured artist Wilson in a much more successful run-through of the steps. When posting that original dance clip, Alaina encouraged others to join the fun, writing, “Celebrating #thiccthursday today with all my peaches out there! Use this sound with your partner in crime & get to dancin’ 🍑🤠”.

Alaina also enlisted the help of her friend Kane Brown to join her for a dance (which again went more successfully than Shelton’s attempt), writing in that post’s caption, “This guy has had my back since we were kids. I can’t believe I got him to do this 🍑 Love you, @kanebrown !”

Alaina and Brown went to school together in Georgia before either of them was a big name in country music. In September 2022, Alaina recounted the first time she heard Brown sing for their choir teacher (after she was the one who put him on the spot to sing).

“I looked at him, and I said, ‘Can you sing? It sounds like you can sing,'” Alaina remembered, “And he said, ‘I don’t sing in front of people.’ So, naturally, I got him up and made him sing in front of the teacher. Did what I do best, which is embarrassed people.”

Kane Brown & Lauren Alaina Released a Song Together

Brown repaid the favor of Alaina helping spark his love of singing when he included her as a featured artist on his self-titled debut album, which came out in December 2016. Alaina is included in the song (and music video) for Brown’s “What Ifs”. According to CMT, “What Ifs” went 7x platinum and spent 24 weeks at the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Gwen Stefani’s Ex Gets Candid About His Relationship With Her https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gavin-rossdale-gwen-stefani-kids-parenting/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gavin-rossdale-gwen-stefani-kids-parenting/#respond Sun, 18 Jun 2023 16:16:39 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4473388

No Doubt star Gwen Stefani doesn’t really “co-parent” with her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale — at least, that’s what the Bush singer claimed in a new interview.

“I think you can go one of two ways. You can either do everything together and really co-parent and see how that goes, or you can just parent. And I think we just parent,” Rossdale, 57, said on the “Not So Hollywood” podcast, per Page Six.

Rossdale and Stefani, 53, were married from 2002 to 2016. The couple welcomed three children together during their nearly 13 years of marriage: Kingston, 17; Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 9.

Rossdale said in the interview that he and Stefani are “very different” and have “opposing views,” per Page Six.

Though Rossdale said he doesn’t “think there’s much similarity” between the way he and Stefani raise their children, he said he doesn’t see it as a bad thing.

“What’s important is to give them a wide view of things,” the Bush singer said in the interview, according to Page Six. “I think it’d be really helpful for them to make their own minds as individuals.”

“That gives them an incredible perspective to then choose which pieces of those two lives they’d like to inherit and move on with and which part of themselves come out of the whole process,” he added per Page Six.

The rockers battled rumors that Rossdale cheated on Stefani with their nanny, though the speculation was never confirmed.

Stefani joined “The Voice” as a coach in 2014, replacing Christina Aguilera. At that time, the judges panel consisted of Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and fellow newcomer Pharrell Williams.

In 2015, Shelton and his ex-wife, Miranda Lambert, announced their divorce. That same year, Stefani filed for divorce from Rossdale.

Shelton said their divorces are what brought them close. “Next thing I know, I wake up and she’s all I care about, and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me,” he told Billboard at the time.

Shelton, 47, and Stefani have been married since 2021.

Rossdale said on the “Not So Hollywood” podcast that he was single and on dating apps, per People.

Stefani and Rossdale Said They Didn’t Want to Get Divorced

Despite filing for divorce, Stefani said she didn’t want that to be the outcome of her marriage.

Stefani told Glamour in 2016 that she was embarrassed to get divorced.

“I don’t think you’ll talk to one person who didn’t make it in a marriage who’s not gonna feel that way,” she told the publication. “The intention of being married is the vow, right? You want to put everything into it to make it a success.”

“[Marriage] was the one thing I didn’t want to fail at,” she continued to Glamour. “People can say whatever they want to about me, and I don’t get too affected. But I didn’t want them to think I was a failure. There’s nothing weird about how I felt.”

Rossdale also said he didn’t want to split from Stefani.

He told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine in 2017 that divorce was “completely opposite to what I wanted.”

“But here we are,” he told the publication. “Apart from death, I think divorce is one of the hardest, most painful things to go through.”

Rossdale Said His Most ‘Embarrassing’ Moment Was His Divorce From Stefani

When Rossdale was asked about his most embarrassing moment, he said it was his divorce.

He referred to it as “the gross and lopsided spectre of the crumbling of my marriage” during a July 2020 interview with The Guardian.

He also found it difficult to co-parent with Stefani during the pandemic.

During lockdown, the kids spent their time in Los Angeles with Rossdale and in Oklahoma with Stefani and Shelton.

“I know who’s around me — no one is,” Rossdale said on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation,” per People. “And I know who’s bringing me the coronavirus — no one is. But you send your kids out to someone else, and they come back to you and now you’re prone to whoever they’re with.”

Gwen Stefani ‘Finally’ Shares New Music Announcement https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefani-new-music-no-doubt/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefani-new-music-no-doubt/#respond Sat, 17 Jun 2023 16:13:32 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4473057

Fans are getting their wish.

“The Voice” coach Gwen Stefani revealed the cover artwork and release date for a new single, titled “True Babe” in a June 16 Instagram post. “available friday, june 23 :) gx” Stefani wrote in the post’s caption.

This announcement comes after Stefani teased fans with a cryptic video posted on June 14 in which the singer was seen talking into her cell phone, asking, “Wait – what did you say?” to an unknown voice on the other end, who responds, “We’re good to go!” At the time, some fans speculated whether this could point to new music, a No Doubt reunion tour, or a new product launch for Stefani’s GXVE makeup line, with many users sounding off in the comment section.

Stefani also shared a link where fans can pre-save the new single ahead of its June 23 release date.

‘True Babe’ Marks Gwen Stefani’s 1st New Release in Years

“True Babe” will be Stefani’s first solo single in over two years. In the last few years, the singer has slowed down on music releases, instead focusing her time on her makeup line, “Voice” coaching duties, and family.

Stefani’s most recent solo release was her 2021 single “Slow Clap” (and its remix, which featured Saweetie). She has since been featured on Sean Paul’s 2022 song “Light My Fire”, however hasn’t released anything else under her own name. “Slow Clap” followed Stefani’s 2020 single “Let Me Reintroduce Myself”. Stefani’s latest studio albums were her 2016 album “This Is What the Truth Feels Like” and 2017’s Christmas album “You Make It Feel Like Christmas”, which had a deluxe version drop in 2020.

Fans were thrilled at Stefani’s new music announcement and were vocal about their excitement in the singer’s comment section.

“Yeeeeees finally a New song!! And Gwen u better release higher [feat. Marshmello] !!!! Please” one fan wrote (with “Higher” feat. Marshmello being an unreleased song of Stefani’s that has partly leaked on the internet and become popular among her fans).

“TRUE BABE!!!!! IM OBSESSED AND I CANT EVEN TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU RELEASING MUSIC ❤️❤️❤️” another fan added.

“Thank you!!!!!! We needed some good news, queen! 🎶 🎵 🎶 🎵” a third fan commented.

Is Gwen Stefani Planning a No Doubt Reunion?

One of the most-liked comments on Stefani’s post reads, “Can you pretty please play with no doubt one more time?” Stefani frequently finds requests for her to reunite with her band No Doubt on her social media pages.

While no No Doubt reunion tours or performances have been publicly revealed, Stefani has always kept the door open. In November 2022 Stefani shared a post looking back on their album “Tragic Kingdom” in honor of its release date’s 27-year anniversary. The next month, Stefani spoke with the Wall Street Journal, and when asked about the possibility of a reunion, Stefani answered “Anything can happen,” but confirmed no plans were in the works, going on to say, “I have no idea what’s going to happen with No Doubt. We haven’t really talked about doing anything, but it feels like everyone is, right?”

Critic Say ‘Voice’ Coach’s Famous Spouse Got a ‘New Face’ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/chrissy-teigen-critic-new-face/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/chrissy-teigen-critic-new-face/#respond Fri, 16 Jun 2023 21:57:30 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4472652

Television personality and model Chrissy Teigen took aim at a plastic surgeon over their comments about her face.

Teigen, who is married to musical artist and former coach of “The Voice,John Legend, was the subject of a recent Instagram post by Dr. Kay Durairaj. Dr. Durairaj owns her practice Beauty By Dr. Kay in Pasadena, California, and she specializes in cosmetic services and facial plastic surgery, according to her company’s website.

In a now-deleted post shared by Page Six, Dr. Durairaj gave her take on Teigen, saying the former “Lip Sync Battle” host’s “new face” had been botched due to hyaluronic gel fillers.

“This post is not out of mean intentions,” the surgeon wrote. “It is merely here to discuss overfill and its possible consequences.” Along with red exclamation mark emojis to signify a warning, the doctor wrote, “Chrissy Teigen’s ‘New Face.’ Look at how your face could become if you’re doing it wrong.”

“There’s too much reliance on hyaluronic gel fillers, and not enough focus on building foundations, skin structure, and support,” she continued. Dr. Durairaj, who has her own podcast, “Beauty Bytes Podcast: Secrets of a Plastic Surgeon,” then ensured her clients that she’ll treat their procedures like “art.”

Chrissy Teigen Responded to Dr. Durairaj’s Instagram Post, Said She Had Gained Weight

Well, Teigen took notice of the plastic surgeon’s words. And she fired back via an Instagram Story captured by Page Six, calling Dr. Durairaj a “piece of s***” and revealing that she had gained weight.

“‘No mean intentions’???” Teigen wrote, quoting Dr. Durairaj’s Instagram caption. “But saying this could be your face if you do it wrong? You’re a piece of s***. I gained weight.”

Dr. Durairaj’s shot at Teigen came from her verified “beautybydrkay” Instagram post. The plastic surgeon’s deletion of the post happened after Teigen put it on blast. Further, Dr. Durairaj has turned off comments on all of her recent Instagram posts, which means she’s likely received backlash from Teigen’s fans. Her account has 355 thousand followers compared to Teigen’s 42.1 million Instagram followers.

During an interview with Refinery 29 in 2019, Teigen said her skin had changed after having kids. “I’m sure a lot of moms can relate, but I think my skin-care routine has changed because my skin has changed,” she said. “After you give birth, something unexplainable happens to your skin. My skin never used to be as sensitive as it is now; I used to go to town on chemical peels and extractions.”

Teigen said she “pretty much [lived] makeup free” but would do things like “PRP blood facials.”

Chrissy Teigen & John Legend Welcomed Their 3rd Child in January

Teigen and Legend married in 2013 and have three children together. They welcomed in baby daughter Esti Maxine Stephens on January 13, according to E! Online. Legend told the outlet during an interview posted on February 1 that Teigen had picked out Esti’s name. But, they were later surprised to learn that there was a family tie to the name on Legend’s side.

“It turns out, my great-grandmother was named Esther,” he said.

“It wasn’t intentionally after someone,” Legend continued, “but once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther.'”

They also have another daughter Luna, 7, and a son, Miles, 5, according to People.

Legend coached on NBC’s “The Voice” during seasons 16 through 22. He’s slated to return to the reality singing competition show for its 24th season, which is set to air in the fall.

‘The Voice’ Winner Explains How Life ‘Blew Up’ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/winner-brynn-cartelli-kelly-clarkson/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/winner-brynn-cartelli-kelly-clarkson/#respond Fri, 16 Jun 2023 15:49:55 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4472206

“The Voice” season 14 ended in May 2018 with 15-year-old Brynn Cartelli defeating 17-year-old Britton Buchanan to take home the crown and give coach Kelly Clarkson her first team win (in her first season as a coach).

In a June 2023 interview with MassLive.com, the Longmeadow, Massachusetts native discussed the after-effects of winning “The Voice” and what it has been like navigating sudden fame and career success at such a young age.

“I was 15 when I won and I’m 20 now, and I think the ending of your teenage years are pivotal. The difference between 15 and 20 is really noticeable to a lot of people,” Cartelli said.

Brynn Cartelli is Planning a Free Hometown Show on June 23

Cartelli went on to talk about what it was like to be dropped into fame very suddenly. “I’m a normal person that just happened to go through something like that. My life kind of blew up when I was 15, but it’s been a really amazing five years,” Cartelli said, “I’ve always wanted to do this. I never thought that it would happen to me so young.”

In her time since “The Voice”, Cartelli has seen great successes. She signed a deal with Atlantic Records and signed with her coach Clarkson’s then-husband Brandon Blackstock as a manager. By 2019, she went on to open for Clarkson during her “Meaning of Life” U.S. tour alongside “Voice” coach Kelsea Ballerini and made her first of multiple repeated return trips to “The Voice”, some just to visit with new contestants and others to perform.

Aside from just releasing new music over the past five years, Cartelli has also made a number of music videos and has dabbled in directing as well. She directed the video for her most recent single “Secondhand Smoke”, and opened up in the interview about what it has been like expressing her creativity through video directing rather than just singing and songwriting.

“This is my third time directing, and each time I’ve absolutely loved it. It’s been so different, but it’s kind of like songwriting,” Cartelli shared, “Every time you write a new song, there’s a new tactic or a new strategy that you use that makes it unlike any song you’ve written before. And I’ve done the same thing with directing. I’ve just learned so much every time, and I’m definitely still learning, but I love it.”

Now, Cartelli is preparing for a free hometown concert on June 23 at the MGM Springfield (in Springfield, Massachusetts) at 7:30 p.m. as part of the casino’s Free Music Fridays concert series. The concert is open to the public to attend, and Cartelli teased that she is preparing to debut quite a few songs at the live show.

What Did Brynn Cartelli Sing on ‘The Voice’?

Brynn Cartelli stood out from her first appearance on “The Voice”, when she turned both Clarkson and Blake Shelton’s chairs with her Blind Audition performance of “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth and Emeli Sandé. In the Battles, she beat fellow team member Dylan Hartigan with a country spin on Taylor Swift’s “…Ready For It?”, though Hartigan was stolen by Shelton and survived the round. For her Knockout, Cartelli sang Rascall Flatts’ “Here Comes Goodbye” and sent home teammate Jamella in the process.

During her six weeks of live shows, Cartelli tackled hits from Sia, Lady Gaga, and Adele, earning particular praise for her “Skyfall” performance during the finals, in which she also performed “Don’t Dream It’s Over” as a duet with Clarkson, and an original song, “Walk My Way”.

Fans Look for Meaning Behind Gwen Stefani’s Cryptic New Video https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefanis-cryptic-video-new-music/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/gwen-stefanis-cryptic-video-new-music/#respond Thu, 15 Jun 2023 15:47:13 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4471168

“The Voice” star Gwen Stefani is set to make a return for the singing competition’s 24th season this Fall (with an as-yet-unknown premiere date) but could the No Doubt singer have another big project in the works?

Stefani took to Instagram on June 14 to share a cryptic video with her followers. In the clip, Stefani can be seen on set of a photoshoot, dressed in a black crop top, with long yellow nails and bright red lips, as she answers a phone call.

“Wait – what did you say?” Gwen asks the person on the other end of the call, who can be heard responding, “We’re good to go!” Stefani then ends the call with an “Okay, bye.”

Fans Speculated About the Meaning of Gwen Stefani’s Video

Fans were confused about what the meaning was behind Stefani’s video and began speculating about possible announcements this could be pointing to for the “Don’t Speak” singer in the comment section.

“Please be a No Doubt reunion Tour” one fan wrote. This was far-and-away the most popular wish of fans in the comment sections, with other commenters writing, “Please be a No Doubt reunion- I will max my savings for that!” and “No makeup. No solo album. No collab. We want NO DOUBT!”

Stefani has shifted some of her career focus to her makeup line, GXVE, since launching it in 2022. “GXVE has been over three years in the making, but I feel like I’ve been preparing for this moment my whole life,” Stefani said when her line was first coming out, “I was a makeup girl behind the counter for Borghese and Ultima II [in high school]. I had no training; they just opened it up and told me to make a display, and I was like, ‘Really? I’m in here now?'”

While it is not uncommon for people to explore new careers during their life, nostalgic fans wish Stefani would continue releasing music in tandem with her GXVE pursuits, with another commenter writing, “If this isn’t about music… enough makeup and ‘The Voice’ we need a comeback it’s been 6 years we are starving pleaseeeee”.

Stefani’s last music releases were her 2017 Christmas album “You Make It Feel Like Christmas”, her 2016 solo album “This Is What the Truth Feels Like”, and No Doubt’s 2012 album, “Push and Shove”.

Fans began looking for more clues as to the nature of Stefani’s video by zeroing in on the background details. “Omg what song is in the background?” one fan asked of the song behind Stefani’s phone call, which included a woman’s voice singing on the syllable “La la la”, with another user responding, “I’m wondering if it’s her new song !!”

Gwen Stefani Congratulates Blake Shelton on His ‘Voice’ Run

Stefani is set to fill one of the four coaches’ chairs on season 24 of “The Voice” (alongside John Legend, reigning champion Niall Horan, and newcomer Reba McEntire), however this is the first time Stefani won’t be competing against her husband, Blake Shelton, who retired from the series this year after 12 years and 23 seasons. Ahead of his departure, Stefani filmed an interview for the show in which she reflected on meeting and falling in love with Shelton during their time as rival coaches.

“Who would have thought this Orange County girl and this country guy from Oklahoma would find each other on the set of ‘The Voice’,” Stefani said.

Kelly Clarkson Reveals Her Own Red Flags https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/red-flags-kelly-clarkson-brandon-blackstock/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/red-flags-kelly-clarkson-brandon-blackstock/#respond Wed, 14 Jun 2023 16:00:58 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4470097

“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson is getting better at spotting red flags. Not only has the “Kelly Clarkson Show” host been retroactively discovering red flags in her relationship with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, Clarkson has also released a single from her upcoming studio album, “Chemistry” (which comes out on June 23), on the subject, titled “Red Flag Collector”.

In a June 10 TikTok video, Clarkson used a popular filter on the platform to reveal three of her own red flags (which were chosen at random by the filter), going on to discuss which of the three options actually apply and what some of her other red flags may be in relationships.

Kelly Clarkson Reveals Her Red Flags in Relationships

The three red flags Clarkson was assigned by the TikTok filter were “cancels plans”, “vegan”, and “mansplains”. As these flags were revealed, Clarkson reacted to whether or not they were a good fit for her, and whether or not they would be dealbreakers in a partner of hers.

“Cancels plans, hmm. Vegan, doesn’t bother me. Oh, mansplains? Boo! That’s annoying,” Clarkson decided, “Those aren’t mine. [Cancels plans] may be mine. I said [mine] the other day, I think my red flags are liar, somebody that projects their own issues on you, and someone that doesn’t have friends. You know what I’m saying? No friends? Why do you not?”

Many TikTok users reacted to Clarkson’s video in the comment section, with multiple fans left unsure whether Clarkson was sharing the biggest red flags that applied to herself, or rather the biggest red flags that she looks to avoid in a partner.

“The fact that Kelly misunderstood the assignment is so wholesome 😂 🥰” one user commented.

“Lol I love you but I don’t think you understood the assignment 😂 these are supposed to be like your own red flags like YOU cancel plans 😂,” another fan added.

Clarkson shared the video to Instagram as well, where one user assigned her a lighthearted red flag in the comment section. “Your biggest red flag is ‘not announcing a European tour since over 10 years.’ 🙌” the fan wrote.

Kelly Clarkson Will Not Be Going on Tour to Support ‘Chemistry’

Despite one fan calling her out for not announcing an upcoming tour, Clarkson has made it clear  that with her busy talk show, album release, and motherhood schedules, she currently has no tour dates set and is not keeping any secrets or surprises from fans.

“People are saying: ‘Are you going on tour?’ Here’s the thing. This is why I announced the 10 shows in Vegas. I was not being like, ‘Oh, it’s a secret — we’ve really got this huge tour we’re gonna do right after.’ It’s not that situation,” Clarkson said in a June 2 Instagram Live, “I don’t know if y’all noticed, but I have like a 9 to 5-er. Like, I have a job that’s like a lot of work and takes time. And I also have kids, you know? They’re in school.”

Clarkson had previously confirmed her plans for a 10-show Las Vegas residency, “Chemistry… an Intimate Night with Kelly Clarkson” which is set to play for multiple weekends in July and August at the Bakkt Theater at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Blake Shelton Sends ‘Voice’ Winner Niall Horan Special Video Message https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/blake-shelton-niall-horan-special-message/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/blake-shelton-niall-horan-special-message/#respond Tue, 13 Jun 2023 16:02:04 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4469175

It’s all love between the cowboy and the Irishman.

Ahead of his Friday, June 9 performance on “The Today Show”, winning “Voice” coach Niall Horan reunited with host Carson Daly and received a video message from his co-star Blake Shelton.

“Hey Niall, it’s your old hero, Blake Shelton here,” Shelton joked in the clip, “I just wanted to say good luck today on your ‘Today Show’ performance. I miss you buddy, and now that it’s over with I can tell you that I wrote it into the script that you were going to win ‘The Voice’ this finale.”

Horan responded with a quip of his own, saying, “Good old pops, when I won ‘The Voice’ the only thing he said to me was ‘I taught you everything you know’.

Niall Horan Talks His Newest Album, ‘The Show’

Horan’s “Today Show” appearance coincided with the June 9 release of his newest studio album, “The Show”, which he started working on during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. During his visit, he discussed what went into the album and how excited he was to be releasing it.

“It’s a very nerve-wracking time,” Horan said, “It’s like Christmas Eve excitement. I like the songs, I wrote them, my inner team, we all like them, but you don’t know what the masses are going to think around the world.”

Horan also wrote about how the album was more “mature” than his last two records, “Flicker” and “Heartbreak Weather”, which he simply credits to his being older and more mature when he recorded it.

“I think during the pandemic there was a period where I could sit still for the first time in my career ever for longer than 10 or 12 days at a time,” Horan went on to say, “So it was nice to be able to sit still, reflect, look forward to the future, and think about your outlook on things. And I think that played into what I was writing about straightaway.”

Horan’s career exploded at the age of 16 when he auditioned for the British singing competition show “The X Factor”, where he auditioned as a solo singer, was eliminated after the boot camp stage, and then brought back and added to a new boys group that the judges had formed, which would go on to be the global phenomenon One Direction.

Niall Horan is Returning to ‘The Voice’ Next Season

Despite his busy schedule with his album release and Summer tour dates, Horan is carving time out of his schedule to return to “The Voice” and defend his title when season 24 premieres this Fall on NBC (though a specific premiere date is yet to be announced).

If he hopes to retain his crown, Horan will have to defeat returning coaches John Legend and Gwen Stefani and take down newcomer Reba McEntire, who served as the Knockout Round Megamentor on season 23.

After season 24, Horan will be going on a world tour to support “The Show” which stretches from February to July 2024 with shows in Europe, Australia, and the United States.

Niall Horan Reveals What He Learned on ‘The Voice’ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-reveals-learned-coach/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-reveals-learned-coach/#respond Tue, 13 Jun 2023 12:41:27 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4469048

Niall Horan’s first season on “The Voice” went about as well as any first-time coach could hope for.

The 29-year-old joined Kelly Clarkson, fellow first year coach Chance The Rapper, and Blake Shelton, who was in his final season, as the coaches for season 23. While each coach went into the Top 5 live finale with at least one singer on their team, including Shelton as the only one two, it was Horan who proved to be victorious.

He helped guide Gina Miles to the season 23 win on “The Voice” as he took home the win in his first season. Grace West of Team Blake finished as the runner-up. Horan will also be back in the fall for season 24, according to NBC.

Niall Horan Reveals What ‘The Voice’ Coaches ‘Reiterated’ to Him

As a first time coach and the youngest among the four on “The Voice,” Horan was able to take in a lot of things from all of them. He tells American Songwriter that they all told him one common thing to help him moving forward.

“They reiterated to me that it’s important to stick to who I am,” he said.

That’s something he has reiterated himself while on his media tour for his third solo album called “The Show.” He said in an interview with Official Charts that the time to himself during the COVID-19 pandemic allowed him to be more introspective with this record.

“It made this album better because I had time to think,” Horan said. “They always say that you have your whole life to write your first album and, you know, a few weeks to write your second. So it was good that I had that amount of time to make the third and I think you can hear that I’ve taken time over it.”

Niall Horan Shared What His ‘Voice’ Gameplan Was

Clearly Horan’s approach to the NBC singing competition in his debut season on “The Voice” was a smart choice. He revealed in his interview with American Songwriter that he wanted to connect all of his team’s individual performances into something bigger.

He said this was his way of allowing them to see what is and isn’t for them.

“When I started on the show, I wanted to make mini-albums for my team,” he said. “I said to them, ‘Let’s find out what your interests are and make each performance from the same breath.’ I wanted them to find what their thing is and what it isn’t.”

He continues, “That reiterated to me that I should keep doing that myself. ‘Follow your instincts and do what you’re good at.’”

Horan’s third album released on June 9, 2023. He will head out for a 2024 tour as part of “The Show” album release.

When Horan returns to “The Voice” stage, he will be joined by three different coaches. Reba McEntire, who previously served as a mentor, will step in for the first time as a coach. John Legend and Gwen Stefani will both be back after each took some time away from the series.

“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson has some choice words for Blake Shelton and his “Barmaggedon” production team. In a June 9 Instagram Live to promote her newest single “Red Flag Collector”, Clarkson teased her season two appearance on Shelton and “Voice” host Carson Daly’s USA Network game show, in which celebrity guests are made to compete in drinking games at Shelton’s Ole Red bar in Nashville, Tennessee. “Barmaggedon” is hosted by WWE star Nikki Bella.

“I drank a lot,” Clarkson said, answering a curious fan who asked about her experience on the show, “I didn’t actually. I just don’t drink a lot in life, and so it caught up with me. But it was really fun. But let me tell you something, what they do to you. I’m going to call you out ‘Barmaggedon’. They decide the time to shoot the very beginning of the episode is at the end of the day, after you’ve shot everything and you are intoxicated. And then I actually made a mistake too, I don’t know how they’ll edit it.”

Kelly Clarkson Sang Over Blake Shelton

Clarkson wouldn’t share all of her “mistakes” from her day on the set of “Barmaggedon”, however she did reveal that she stepped on Shelton’s toes during one segment of the show where he was performing a song.

“One [mistake I made] being – look, I was inebriated – Blake was up on the stage and he was singing, and he was looking at me and I was like ‘Oh are we supposed to sing now?'” Clarkson recounted, “And so I just, you know, like a karaoke moment. So I started singing with him and I was like ‘Wait was this supposed to be his moment?’ I didn’t realize until the end. I had had some tequila.”

Without revealing her teammate or opponent, Clarkson said she had lots of fun with all involved, and that she would definitely return to “Barmaggedon” if given the chance to come back.

Clarkson and Shelton are not strangers to an impromptu duet, with one such performance taking place in the interview chairs of “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, when Shelton accompanied the pair as they sang his 2001 song “Austin”, which served as his debut single from his debut album.

Blake Shelton ‘Stole’ an Idea for ‘Barmaggedon’ From Kelly Clarkson

Shelton admitted in December 2022 that the reason he is singing during his “Barmaggedon” episodes is because he stole the idea from Clarkson, who opens each episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” by singing a cover of a popular song in a beloved segment which she calls Kellyoke.

“I like to steal from people,” Shelton said, “I watch Kelly Clarkson’s talk show every day. I never miss it. She opens every one of her episodes with a song, and I thought, ‘You know, I’m going to do that. I’m going to do what Kelly does, but do it better than Kelly.’ So I decided that I’m going to do a classic, bar karaoke theme song every episode of ‘Barmageddon’.”

Daly chimed in as well, saying that his friend Shelton, “came to me and he pitched this idea and he goes, ‘What do you think about me opening up with a cover? We’ll call it a ‘Blake-oke.’ I say, ‘Kelly has the Kellyoke. You can’t call it ‘Blake-oke.’”

“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to working with others. In fact, the “American Idol” winner has worked with two artists for featured songs on her upcoming 10th studio album, “Chemistry”, which is set for a June 23, 2023 release. The first is comedian and musician Steve Martin, who played the banjo for Clarkson’s single “I Hate Love”, and the other is percussionist and singer Shiela E., who will be featured on the album’s final track, “That’s Right”.

In a June 9 Instagram live clip, Clarkson spoke with followers about her latest single from the album, “Red Flag Collector”, and answered fan questions, including one about which “Voice” season 23 performer she would most want to collaborate with.

Kelly Clarkson Reveals Some of Her Dream Collaborations

“Ooh, somebody just mentioned Lewis Capaldi, I would love to sing with him,” Clarkson admitted, reacting to a fan comment during her Live video.

Capaldi appeared on “The Voice” season 23 live finale show to perform his single “Wish You the Best” from his May 2023 album “Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent”.

Clarkson also revealed during the live video that her children are asking her to be included in her music, responding to one fan who asked “Would you ever collab with your kids?”

“My kids are begging me to do something, that’s what’s so funny. They’re like ‘Can we come sing?’ because they heard I was doing the Vegas thing, ‘Can we come?’ and I’m like, well you don’t just get up there for nothing, is there a song you want to do? I would totally do that but I gotta figure out something that would make sense,” Clarkson shared, before teasing that her 8-year-old daughter River may be involved in some song or video for “Chemistry” beyond the “Favorite Kind of High” lyric video that she was featured in.

Among others, Clarkson also shouted out Adele, Cher, and Steven Tyler (and Aerosmith) as artists she admires or would like to collaborate with during her Live video.

Kelly Clarkson Wrote a Song for a Fellow ‘Voice’ Coach

During her Live video, Clarkson also took a moment to gush about her fellow “Voice” coach Niall Horan’s latest album, “The Show”, which had just come out that day, saying, “I love the sound of his new album”.

Clarkson and Horan have a special connection, as both got their big breaks in music while competing on a singing competition show judged by Simon Cowell. Clarkson went on to be a contributing writer on One Direction’s debut album “Up All Night” for the track “Tell Me a Lie”.

“When Simon Cowell put me forward to write for One Direction I said: ‘Let me hear them first’. Simon has been really supportive since I won American Idol. ‘Tell Me A Lie’ is the cut I’ve got on 1D’s album as I like the story of them, how they came together as a group. While I wrote the song for me, it didn’t fit in the current album as I never want an album to sound like one thought,” Clarkson said in a 2012 interview about the experience.

Clarkson had the same favor returned to her on “Chemistry”, as a fellow “Voice” coach Nick Jonas is credited as a write on the Steve Martin-featured track “I Hate Love”, which is out now on all streaming platforms.

VIDEO: Kelly Clarkson Surprises Fans With Flash Mob https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-surprises-performance-flash-mob/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/kelly-clarkson-surprises-performance-flash-mob/#respond Sat, 10 Jun 2023 16:15:32 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4465689

“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson isn’t afraid to sing in public, and the “Kelly Clarkson Show” host did just that in a June 9 Instagram post when she surprised unassuming fans with an impromptu flash mob performance of her single “Favorite Kind of High”.

“This was so fun, y’all! 😂 I got together with a bunch of amazing singers and flashmobbed people in LA,” Clarkson captioned the post, which saw her singing to a small crowd eating lunch at a Sweetgreen salad shop, accompanied by the choral group Tonality with an a cappella arrangement of the song by Alexander Lloyd Blake.

“Favorite Kind of High” is the second single released from Clarkson’s forthcoming 10th studio album “Chemistry”, which drops in full on June 23, 2023. It was preceded by the songs “Me” and “Mine”, which were shared in a joint release, and was followed by singles “I Hate Love (featuring Steve Martin)” and “Red Flag Collector”.

Entertainment Tonight shared another clip from the day, in which Clarkson and Tonality moved along to a coffeeshop for another pop-up performance of her song “Me”.

Kelly Clarkson Ambushes Fans With ‘Favorite Kind of High’ Performance

Tonality shared their own post reflecting on the process of working with Clarkson, writing, “We had a blast singing @alexanderlblake’s arrangement of “Favorite Kind of High” by Kelly Clarkson from her upcoming album ‘Chemistry’ which drops June 23. We’ve always loved how boldly Kelly sings about her personal journey of self-discovery and the highs and lows of the human experience. At [Tonality] we believe in the power of music to transcend boundaries and transform the very fabric of our existence.”

Fans in the comment section of Clarkson’s flash mob post were thrilled to hear the a cappella arrangement and see the impromptu performance, though many had notes on the reactions of those who got to see the performance in person.

“THIS is the American Dream… Getting flash mobbed by Kelly Clarkson,” one user wrote, adding in a second comment, “All those people are acting way too chill being serenaded by THE American Idol. Stand and salute!!”

“The audience needs to step up when the Queen is singing 😌” another comment read.

“This crowd wasn’t itttt — y’all deserved way more applause / surprise / omg it’s Kelly Clarkson!!!” a third user added.

Many of the audience members at the performance were very attentive, taking out their phones to capture the fleeting performance, and applauding at the end, however there were some viewers sitting at the Sweetgreen who continued on eating their salads, not paying much mind to the song being sung mere feet away from them.

Kelly Clarkson Surprised a Bride & Groom at Their Wedding Reception

These “Chemistry” flash mobs are not Clarkson’s first time surprising fans with a performance. In a 2019 YouTube clip, the singer can be seen surprising a very delighted bride and groom by serenading them during their first dance with her song “Piece by Piece”, a song about her relationship with her father and love for her now-ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, who is now (partially) a subject of “Chemistry”, as much of the album will focus on Clarkson and Blackstock’s 2020 divorce.

“Stacy this is for you,” Clarkson tells the bride right after being revealed.

“You didn’t know she was going to be here? Swear to god?” Stacy then asked her groom, who admits he was just as surprised as she was.

Clarkson had to interrupt herself during the performance, as she was getting choked up near the end. “It’s hard to sing at a wedding!” she said with a laugh before finishing with the audience cheering her on.

‘Voice’ Coach Sparks Dating Rumors With British Athlete https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/shakira-lewis-hamilton-gerard-pique-jam/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/shakira-lewis-hamilton-gerard-pique-jam/#respond Fri, 09 Jun 2023 16:08:09 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4464808

Former “The Voice” coach and Colombian music star Shakira has re-entered the dating pool. The singer started drumming up dating rumors after being spotted out and about with British racing driver and Formula 1 athlete Lewis Hamilton over the past few weeks, and People reported on June 8 that the pair are in the early stages of dating.

This dating chatter comes one year after Shakira announced her split from her partner of 11 years, Spanish football player Gerard Piqué, with whom she shares two sons, 10-year-old Milan and 8-year-old Sasha.

Shakira and Hamilton were first allegedly spotted together in early May 2023 by a fan on Twitter, who saw the two out at Cipriani, a restaurant in Miami, after the Miami Grand Prix where Hamilton came in sixth. It is unclear if the pair arrived together or ran into each other at the restaurant. Days later, Page Six reported photos were taken of the pair sharing a boat day with some of Hamilton’s friends.

Then, in early June, Shakira attended the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, where Hamilton clinched second place. People reported that the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer paid close attention to Hamilton’s race and that the two went out for dinner and drinks following the competition along with some friends. One such friend, Mustafa, shared an Instagram story of the dinner, in which Hamilton’s arm can be seen around Shakira’s waist in a group photo.

Shakira also shared her own Instagram post from the Spanish Grand Prix, writing, “Nice to be back in Barcelona!” in the caption. Fans flooded her comment section with photos and gifs of Hamilton smiling, suggesting excitement at the prospect of the new relationship. Other fans included photos of Shakira’s ex, Piqué, however.

One fan wrote, “Lewis Hamilton le dio like en l foto 😍 que emoción😍”, which translates as, “Lewis Hamilton liked the photo 😍 how exciting 😍”, in the comment section.

Days after the Spanish Grand Prix, People reported on a source close to both Shakira and Hamilton who gave an update on their relationship status, telling the outlet, “They’re spending time together and in the ‘getting to know you’ stage. It’s fun and flirty.”

How Did a Jar of Jam Play a Role in Shakira & Gerard Piqué’s Breakup?

Shakira’s relationship with Piqué ended rather abruptly for fans, whose first public sign of trouble in the relationship was their breakup announcement in June 2022. The pair mutually announced their split in a statement delivered via Shakira’s PR team. Months later, in January 2023, Shakira released a song, titled “BZRP Music Sessions #53”, with lyrics referencing the relationship.

People then reported on an interview Shakira did with the Spanish television show “Socialite”, and although her “Socialite” interview is not easily accessible online, it is alleged that Shakira believes Piqué cheated on her because when she returned home from traveling she noticed that a jar of strawberry jam in her fridge had been used despite Piqué and their children not liking it. This led her to believe that somebody else must have eaten her jam.

Although these claims are not fully confirmed, fans online have taken to them like wildfire, with many Twitter users sharing thoughts, comments, and memes about the alleged jam jar.

Niall Horan Reveals What Artists Are on His Playlist https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-playlist-taylor-swift/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-playlist-taylor-swift/#respond Thu, 08 Jun 2023 19:00:12 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4463818

Niall Horan knows a thing or two about catchy music as evident in his time with One Direction and in recent years as a solo artist. Horan, who joined “The Voice” season 23 for his first year as a coach, recently revealed what music and artists he listens to on his Spotify playlist.

Horan shared with PEOPLE on June 7, 2023, ahead of a live performance in New York City that was hosted by Spotify what he listens to other than his own music. The 29-year-old gave insight into not just who he listens to but also the style of music.

Niall Horan Has Two Artists Who Show Up the Most in his Playlist

On the heels of releasing his third solo album called “The Show” on June 9, 2023, Horan opened up about two artists that are consistently showing up in his Spotify playlist.

“I usually listen to my Spotify Wrapped – there’s a lot of Bon Iver in there, there’s a lot of T. Swift [Taylor Swift],” he said to PEOPLE.

While Horan didn’t name any tracks or albums of theirs that he is the most tapped into, Swift did release a new album “Midnights,” on October 21, 2022, which currently sees its biggest single, “Anti-Hero,” sitting at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her latest release, “Karma,” which features Ice Spice, is at No. 2 on that same chart. As for Bon Iver, his last album came back in 2019 with “I, I.”

In 2020, Horan curated a playlist for Apple Music that is still accessible in which he hand-picked 11 songs. Swift’s “Lover” was included in that playlist. Other musicians featured included Stevie Nicks, Hozier, Billie Eilish, and Katy Perry.

Niall Horan is Fresh off a Successful First Season on ‘The Voice’

Horan, who will be going on tour in 2024, joined the NBC singing competition for season 23. He came in with fellow first-year coach Chance The Rapper as the two teamed up with Kelly Clarkson, who returned from a one-season hiatus, and Blake Shelton as he embarked on his final season.

The competition proved to be ripe for Horan as he guided Gina Miles to the victory ahead of Team Blake runner-up, Grace West. Horan, who joined Miles onstage in the finale to perform Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind,” will be back for another go-around in season 24.

He will be the only returning coach when “The Voice” returns in the fall of 2023. Two familiar faces will be back in John Legend and Gwen Stefani, while another, Reba McEntire, will be making her debut in the coach’s chair after serving as a mentor in the past.

In an interview with InStyle during season 23, Horan mentioned the hardest part of being a coach is the “decision-making in terms of who on my team stays and who goes.” Other than having to make those hard choices, Horan called his first season “the most fun experience.”

One of his team members on season 23, Ross Clayton, spoke very highly of Horan in an interview with Heavy. He said Horan was “born” to coach and praised him for the way in which he explains and shows each individual the ins-and-outs of a performance.

‘Voice’ Coach Lands White House Performance https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/jennifer-hudson-white-house-performance-juneteenth/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/jennifer-hudson-white-house-performance-juneteenth/#respond Thu, 08 Jun 2023 16:35:28 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4463910

Former “The Voice” coach and “American Idol” finalist Jennifer Hudson has been given the opportunity to perform at the White House at a special Juneteenth Concert to be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

According to a press release by the White House, the concert will take place on the South Lawn ahead of the newest national holiday, which is the following Monday, June 19. President Biden signed the legislation establishing Juneteenth as a national holiday in 2021, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States in 1865. Despite President Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclamation two and a half years prior, it took years to take effect across the country. The first Juneteenth celebration happened one year later in Galveston, Texas, before spreading throughout the nation.

Hudson is one of many stars who will be featured in the White House’s upcoming Juneteenth concert. Joining her on the day will be Broadway veterans including 6-time Tony Award winner (potentially 7-time winner by the concert pending the Sunday, June 11 ceremony’s results) Audra McDonald, as well as fellow Tony winner Patina Miller and Tony nominee Colman Domingo. Grammy winners Method Man, Ledisi, and Maverick City Music are also set to join, as well as actor and dancer Nicco Annan.

Filling out the setlist are marching bands and choirs from four HBCUs, the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Hampton University Concert Choir, Morgan State University Marching Band – The Magnificent Marching Machine, and the Tennessee State University Marching Band – Aristocrat of Bands.

Jennifer Hudson Has Performed at the White House Before

This Juneteenth concert will not be the first time Hudson has performed at the White House, or for a sitting president, as the EGOT winner has developed a close relationship with President Obama during his time in the Oval Office. Hudson was invited in 2010 to perform “Someday We’ll all be Free” by Donny Hathaway during a “Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement” event. At this same event, Hudson shared the stage with Smokey Robinson to deliver a duet of The Impressions’ “People Get Ready”.

Hudson has also performed at her fair share of Kennedy Center Honors ceremonies, including in 2010 when she was helping pay tribute to honoree Oprah Winfrey by singing the song “I’m Here” from the musical adaptation of the book “The Color Purple” (which Winfrey produced when it first premiered on Broadway in 2005 after she starred in the 1985 movie adaptation, directed by Steven Spielberg). The performance earned her uproarious applause and a standing ovation from Winfrey, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and Winfrey’s fellow honorees, including Paul McCartney.

Hudson and actress Kerry Washington reflected on one of Obama’s last White House parties as President on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” in 2022, where Washington, nursing at the time, had to find a quiet place to pump and stored her breast milk in a White House refrigerator, rather than leave the party early.

“In our defense, we had to stay because it was the last hoorah,” Hudson said of the party, which went late into the morning (though the two didn’t specify how early).

Niall Horan Shares Blake Shelton’s Reaction to His Win on ‘The Voice’ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-blake-shelton-reaction-win/ https://heavy.com/entertainment/the-voice/niall-horan-blake-shelton-reaction-win/#respond Thu, 08 Jun 2023 02:06:16 +0000 https://heavy.com/?p=4463538

Irish singer-songwriter Niall Horan only needed one season as a coach on “The Voice” to earn a win. But according to Blake Shelton, the singing competition show’s longest-tenured coach, he was Horan’s guiding light.

The One Direction superstar filled a red seat during season 23, and his team member, Gina Miles, was crowned the champion on May 23. After Miles and Horan were revealed as the winners, the latter embraced Shelton, who had a cheeky response for the 29-year-old artist.

“When we left the seat, they announced the winner and I stood up, and then he came for a big hug,” Horan laughed during an interview with People published June 5. “I gave him a big hug, and he said, ‘I taught you everything you know.’ That’s all he said, not congratulations or anything.”

Finale night marked Shelton’s final episode as a coach. He filled the role from the NBC show’s debut in 2011, and one thing he’ll be leaving with is a friendship with Horan.

“I’m going to miss him,” Horan said. “He is not one of those famous friends, in my eyes. I think if I had met him outside of The Voice, I would have probably been friends with him anyway. Weirdly enough, we’ve got a lot in common, we’re quite similar people. Though not in dress sense.”

Niall Horan Will Coach Against Blake Shelton’s Wife Gwen Stefani

Chance the Rapper and Kelly Clarkson both coached on season 23, as well, and like Shelton, they’ll part ways with “The Voice.” Reba McEntire, John Legend and Gwen Stefani will join Horan for season 23, which is set to premiere in fall 2023.

Stefani, who has participated in seven seasons previously, met Shelton on the show in 2014. They started dating in 2015 and were married in 2021 — and Horan is ready to battle it out with Shelton’s “other half.”

“I’m going to miss [Blake], but I get to work with the other half of that marriage,” Horan continued. “I met Gwen at the afterparty for this season’s ‘Voice.’ She came and surprised Blake on the last night, and she was so funny and so cool, so I’m excited.”

Niall Horan’s Time on ‘The X Factor’ Helped Him as a Coach on ‘The Voice’

Horan placed third on season 7 of “The X Factor” in 2010 alongside his One Direction band members Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles. And he told the outlet that experiencing the process of a singing competition show as a contestant helped his abilities as a coach on “The Voice.”

“[The X Factor] did come into play more than I thought it would, or more than I thought I would allow it to,” Horan said. “Being there with the contestants every week, picking songs, keeping them calm — because it’s crazy how talented these young kids are, and with that level of talent comes a level of seriousness, and I was always trying to get them to enjoy it.”

“Having come from a show like that, it felt normal to be doing ‘The Voice’ to me,” he continued. “If I was just a singer and I hadn’t been on a show like that before, I’m sure I would have been a bit more deer in the headlights, but I knew what I was getting myself into, and I think it was helpful.”
