English UFC star Paddy Pimblett was called out by Matt Frevola on Saturday night after “The Steamrolla” picked up the biggest win of his career.
Frevola battled No. 14-ranked lightweight Drew Dober during the UFC 288 preliminary card on May 6, and the American notched his third straight victory by taking out Dober via first-round TKO. Frevola will likely become a ranked combatant when the official UFC standings update next week. But, he’s looking for a match with “The Baddy,” who remains unranked at 155 pounds.
“Listen up, Paddy Pimblett, you absolutely suck,” Frevola said during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan inside the Octagon. “Stop being a b**** and let’s fight. Alright? You’re on a four-fight win streak, I’m on a three-fight win streak. You’re in the UFC, you can’t pick and choose your fights. You’ve got to fight who the fans want to see you fight. Let’s go.”
Then, looking out to the sold-out crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Frevola asked: “Who wants to see Paddy Pimblett and The Steamrolla? Let’s go. Who wants it? Let’s go, bro. The time is now.”
Frevola’s callout was met by thunderous applause. At the time of the writing, Pimblett has yet to respond to The Steamrolla’s challenge. Frevola improved his professional mixed martial arts record to 11-3-1 at UFC 288, which includes four wins via KO/TKO and three by submission.
The Baddy (20-3) is currently recovering from ankle surgery and hopes to make his fighting comeback by the end of the year.
Pimblett Wants a Rematch With Jared Gordon
The Baddy last fought in December at UFC 282 when he bested Jared Gordon by unanimous decision. However, many viewers scored the fight for “Flash,” which has left Pimblett wanting to silence the doubters by earning a decisive victory over the American.
“I want to punch his head in toward the end of the year,” Pimblett said in March. “I am going to run it back. I hope he beats Bobby Green, because I’ll snap his arm for him in a round. Had a boxing match with him and I still won, because you’re s***.
“I hope he watches this. You’re f****** dog s***. At my worst, you couldn’t beat me at your best. Injured, everything going wrong. And you couldn’t beat me on my worst day, and I beat you on your best, because you’re a little bum.”
Gordon (19-6, one no-contest) competed against Green on April 22 during UFC Fight Night 222. Unfortunately, the two men collided heads during the opening frame which led to a no-contest ruling after Flash became severely compromised by the unintentional and illegal blow.
Frevola Is 5-3-1 Inside the Octagon Since Debuting in 2018
Frevola has been in the UFC since 2018 when he earned a promotional contract for his victory over Jose Flores during Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. He dropped his UFC debut to Marco Polo Reyes by knockout later that year before fighting Lando Vannata to a draw in his next outing.
He put together a two-fight victory streak, which included a win against Jalin Turner, before losing back-to-back matches to Arman Tsarukyan and Terrance McKinney. Since then, The Steamrolla has only known victory, defeating Genaro Valdez, Ottman Azaitar and Dober.
